A Message from the Principal

Ard Scoil na nDéise is conveniently located near the centre of Dungarvan town. It is a Catholic girls' school under the trusteeship of the Mercy Sisters, in the process of being handed over to the Ceist trust (Catholic Education in Irish Schools Trust). All classes have a 'base classroom', and the Principal's and secretary's offices are located in the Senior Building. In accordance with our Mission Statement we aim to provide a rounded education for our students. We want them to reach their full potential academically, but also to graduate from Ard Scoil na nDéise with enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem.

Academically, we expect our students to be motivated and always to do their best, whatever their best may be. The majority of Ard Scoil students aim to gain a place at a third level college, and we are very proud of our many students who obtain outstanding examination results. We are also particularly happy when students who find secondary school more difficult and have to work extremely hard achieve a good Leaving Certificate.

In today's society self-confidence, self-discipline, good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team are vital. In this regard, the wide range of extracurricular activities offered by our teachers builds on the work done in the classroom and by our Pastoral Care team and discipline system. We actively encourage our students to get involved in public speaking, debating and drama, to assume leadership and responsibility, to work together in sport and in other types of teams. Having already achieved the Green Flag, we continue to promote care of the environment. Students with artistic and musical talents are offered opportunities to use and share them. All this can be done in the Ard Scoil while having fun!

Our teaching and non-teaching staff, our Parents' Council and our Board of Management work hard to keep updating our school facilities and improving the learning experience for our students. I am very grateful for their support. Hopefully this website will give you some idea of the busy, vibrant school community that is Ard Scoil na nDéise.

Dorothy Hughes

Deputy Principal

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all students of Ard Scoil na nDéise.

Our school has a Senior and Junior building, and my office is located in the Junior Building.

I try, on a daily basis, in conjunction with the staff, to create a caring environment for our Junior students. We place great emphasis on quality teaching and learning, but if this is to be achieved our students must be happy and comfortable in their surroundings.

I operate an “open door” policy to help with any concerns a student, parent or teacher may have.

A commitment of care to students, parents and staff is my aim, which I hope will always make for a happy and safe environment.
