Third Years Present Cheque to Cunamh
For the past three years, since we were in first year, we third years have been fundraising for Cunamh, a cancer support centre based at the Bons Secours Hospital in Cork. This year, through much hard work, we raised €1000 for the people at Cunamh.
On Tuesday, March 15th, a group of us, accompanied by teachers Mrs. O’Brien, Mrs. Ashe and Ms. O’Shea, travelled to the hospital to present the cheque. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff members of Cunamh. They spoke to us about the work they do and explained what our money would be used to buy. Hearing about their Trojan work to help cancer patients and their families was a truly humbling experience and it made us all really glad we had done our bit to help them. These kind people even treated us to a delicious spread of food and we all ate until we could barely move.
However, despite our full stomachs, there is always energy for shopping! We made a quick stop at Wilton Shopping centre and everyone had great fun chatting with friends and filling out their “summer wardrobes”!
Overall, it was a brilliant day and on behalf of all the third years I would like to thank the wonderful people at Cunamh and also Miss O’Shea, Mrs Ashe and Year Head Mrs. O’Brien who made the whole thing possible.
First Years - Day of Dance
On March 30th, the first years in Ard Scoil had visitors. They were Libby Seward, choreographer and Lorcan and Jess, professional dancers from Animated State, a dance troupe from Waterford. During the day, every student in first year got to make collages inspired by the theme of “Sea”; we also watched some of Animated States previous shows, designed costumes and had a dance session with Lorcan and Jess. Contemporary dance was the genre of dance and it was a mixture of ballet, jazz hip-hop etc.At the end of the day each first year group got to showcase their art work and dance routines. It was a very enjoyable day for everyone!
T.Y. Intel Programme
Before going out into the world of work last week, the T.Y. students completed their second Intel “buddy programme” where they tutored retirees on computer and internet skills. They really enjoyed this and learned as much as they taught. The graduates were presented with their certificates by their IT co-ordinator Mr. Declan O’Keeffe.
