Ard Scoil na nDéise Transition Year so far……………

I was a bit worried about coming into Transition Year because I thought it would be boring and not worth doing because of all the Covid-19 restrictions. So far, we have done lots of fun activities and have more planned. Things are very different in school this year but everyone is doing their best and doing their bit to keep each other safe.

Our first activity took place on Thursday, 10th September. Our year group went on a walk out to Clonea beach. The walk took about an hour and a half. On the beach, we went for walks along the beach, played soccer and had a game of rounders. We also played football and hurling as some girls brought their hurleys.

We are also taking part in the GAA Future Leaders Programme. This programme covers many things that we can learn about and teaches us skills we can use in our lives in the future. I think the programme will be very beneficial and interesting as well. It isn't all about people who play GAA sports, there is something for everyone. The modules include nutrition, refereeing and sports journalism. These modules will give us the skills to use in our daily lives, not just for GAA and sports.

Recently, we held a coffee morning in aid of Waterford Hospice. We were all given a sponsorship card to raise what we could for a good cause. On the Friday morning, we all got our tea, coffee or juice and went down to the bandstand in the park for a relaxing morning.

Hopefully, we will be able to organise more events soon. Things are very different because of Covid but so far I am enjoying TY and looking forward to the rest of the year.
