Back to School Arrangements

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

I hope you are all keeping safe and well and are managing to enjoy the reasonably good weather this summer. Thank you for your patience in these uncertain times. I know a lot of you are anxious to know what arrangements we have put in place for the return to school for the 2020/2021 academic year. We have been awaiting advice from the Government and the Minister for Education to give us guidelines on how to work towards fully reopening our school in a manner that is safe for all members of our school community. You may be aware that yesterday, the Minister for Education published a collection of lengthy documents that will essentially form a roadmap for re opening schools. All of the documents provided by the Minister yesterday are available on should you wish to make yourself familiar with the content of these documents. I am attaching a link to a letter for parents and guardians provided by Minister Foley.

A Board of Management meeting has been called to go through these guidelines in detail and to ensure that we implement everything we need to implement in order to safeguard the health and welfare of all members of our school community when school reopens. At this Board of Management meeting, we will also finalise the calendar for our return to school. In a world without Covid we would have been welcoming our new First Years on Friday, 28th August and all other students would have been returning to school on a phased basis up until Wednesday, 2nd September. I cannot say for certain whether our original dates will change until a Board of Management meeting has been held but we will notify you as soon as we have finalised the calendar.

In the meantime, we are sending out all of the usual ‘Back to School’ letters this week with details of payments and office opening hours. The office will reopen to the public on Thursday, 6th August. Book grants will be available for collection from the office from that date and will be issued in the form of vouchers for David Walsh. All applicants who applied before the closing date have been allocated funding from the book grant fund. Applicants who applied after the deadline should make contact with the office on August 6th to see if a grant was available for them.

I will be in touch soon with further updates. In the meantime, thank you for your continued support and patience.

Kind regards,

Jennifer O’Keeffe
