First Years Tell us About Their First Month in Ard Scoil na nDéise

Ailbhe Morley: My first month in Ard Scoil na nDéise has been good. At the start of the year I didn’t know anyone and I was very nervous but after a couple of days I made loads of new friends and settled in. The teachers are all very nice and helped us all to settle in.The Cáirde girls have all been really nice and helpful. We haven’t been getting as much homework and I thought we would and the work isn’t that difficult. We have a double class of P.E. every week and we do fun things like running and throwing a ball. My favourite subject is Home Economics and we’ve already done a load of sewing and we are going to the kitchen soon.

Abbie Hyslop: My first month in Ard Scoil na nDéise has been exciting but also very different. I went from having only one teacher for the whole year to having loads of different teachers daily, but I think I prefer having all different teachers. The masks make it a bit harder to understand and talk to people but I have made new friends because everyone in my class is nice and friendly. I have loved learning a new language, I chose German because we didn’t do anything like it in Primary School. It does get difficult at times but the Cáirde girls and all the teachers are here to help. Although the masks are making it difficult I am really enjoying my time here and I hope I’ll enjoy all my years here.

Abbie Fitzgerald: My first month in Ard Scoil na nDéise has been brilliant! I love it here because all my teachers and classmates have been so kind and friendly. The masks make it a bit more challenging but we find a way to work around it. I chose French as my language and I love it! The night before heading into school I was extremely nervous. When I came in all the teachers made me very welcome. I love the way that each class is only 40 minutes. The subject that I sometimes struggle with is maths but my maths teacher makes maths some bit easy. He makes me understand maths more which is great. The homework that we get can sometimes be challenging but I understand it. Ms. O’Keeffe and Ms. Brosnan have been really welcoming. The Cáirde girls gave us a tour of the school to show us around. They also have been really friendly and kind to us. We are getting tasters of four subjects. The subjects are Home Economics, Art, Music and Business. We have to choose two of them before mid-term. I am thinking of choosing Home Economics and Music but I am not sure yet. Mid-term is nearly here so I better start thinking!!

Aisling McKeon: Ard Scoil na nDéise is great! I was very nervous but as soon as I sat down I realised everyone else was nervous too so I became less frightened. All my class are really kind and nice and so are all my teachers. They don’t give us too much homework and they let us have mask breaks. I also love having a taster of some subjects, it makes my decision much easier.

Ard Scoil na nDéise really feels like a community. Everyone is very kind especially the Cáirde girls. It was really nice having someone to ask questions about the school and to show us around. It is really nice having a base classroom, there is no stressing about getting lost!

I think everyone is finding the wearing of masks hard including the teachers. But the more you wear them the easier they get. We have a lovely place outside to each our lunch with picnic benches and flowers, there we can take off our masks and talk more freely. I would really recommend coming to Ard Scoil na nDéise, I am looking forward to spending six years here.
