Grand Opening of the new Ard Scoil na nDéise Library (written by TYA)
On Friday the 26th of April, the Ard Scoil held the grand opening of the newly refurbished school library. The atmosphere within the school was electric upon the arrival of guests, which included transition year students, winners of the bookmark competition, and members of the student council, board of management and local community.
The event commenced at 11am in the library where English teacher and library development committee member, Ms. Phelan, gave a heart-warming speech. In her speech, Ms. Phelan commented on how the library development committee was “joined in [their] vision of creating a bright, cosy and welcoming space with an up to date and varied stock of books.” She went on to say, “We envisioned a space where students can relax, get lost in a novel, play board games, collaborate on projects, work independently and have access to a reference section. We hope that all teachers will find the library to be a valuable facility to enhance teaching and learning in the school.” She thanked many people, including the parents’ council and people who donated to the book drive and sponsored walk, for their support. Ms. Brosnan gave a speech on behalf of Principal Williams to show her gratitude to everyone involved.
Following this, Ms. Conroy cut the red ribbon to officiate the opening of the library. Guests got the chance to check out the library before witnessing the unveiling of the mural, created by Ms. Hehir, TY and first year art students. Guests then proceeded to the canteen where they got to enjoy a breathtaking novelty cake made by Lorraine McCarey.
None of this could have been achieved without the fantastic library development committee consisting of teachers Ms. Phelan, Ms. Conroy, Ms. Lucey, Mr. O’Shea and the school caretaker, Ed Moore. Ms. Phelan gave a special thanks to Ed, whose hard work made it all possible. A big thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed the day with the school community. The staff and students of Ard Scoil are delighted to have this fantastic facility in the school.
