Letter from Principal re School Closure

Update re school closure and arrangements for continuing teaching and learning during the period of closure.
Letter from Principal re School Closure

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

I hope that you are keeping safe in these challenging times. We are certainly in uncharted water and please God we will successfully navigate this situation together.

Firstly, thank you for your cooperation with the arrangements for the school closure announced on Thursday. Fortunately, we had anticipated such a situation arising and many of our students had already brought home the books and materials needed to continue their studies from home. Thank you to those of you who helped students to bring books home on Thursday and who offered support to the school at the time. Your gestures were greatly appreciated.

As you are aware, all of our students have got school email addresses. Through these email addresses, they have access to an online teaching and learning platform called Google Classroom. Most of our students and teachers have been using this for quite a while already. This platform can be accessed via laptop, tablet and most smartphones. Teachers will be uploading work and guidance in terms of study and revision to this platform for the duration of the school closure. While we believe that it is vital that students should continue to focus on study and revision during the school closure period, we believe that flexibility is also necessary in the current circumstances. We are acutely aware that many of you may be relying on older children to mind younger ones during your working hours so we are not insisting that our students follow the school timetable rigidly every day. We do however, expect a high level of engagement on Google Classroom and this is being monitored by teachers and by school management. Students may submit work through Google Classroom when it is completed and may email work to their teachers. We will however, be affording a similar degree of flexibility to our staff who may too need to work flexible hours in order to balance other demands placed upon them. We are confident that this flexibility will allow everyone to advance with their work without making a difficult situation even more stressful.

I hope that we will have your continued support with these arrangements and that you will ensure that your daughter continues to engage with her studies during this period of school closure. It is important that this time is not viewed as ‘holidays’ but as a period where teaching and learning continues, albeit in a different way.

I am acutely aware of the concerns of our Sixth and Third Year students regarding their upcoming State Examinations. I am sure we will hear more from the Department of Education and Skills and the State Examinations Commission regarding any possible contingency plans in due course. In the meantime, please reassure them that every student in the country is experiencing the same situation and has the same concerns. I am sure that the powers that be will come up with an appropriate way to resolve this situation.

Thank you again for your continued support. As you are aware school is completely closed and all staff including secretarial staff are working remotely. I will continue to update you on any developments through our website and our social media platforms:
