School Bank and Finance Week

Well done to everyone who was involved in Finance Week!
School Bank and Finance Week

Recently we had Finance Week in our school. Finance Week is a week to promote good money habits among students. Every day there was a financial question and many students won prizes. Transition Year students were also given a talk on setting up their own businesses. It was a very successful week and taught students good spending and saving habits. Thank you to the members of the Finance Committee, Chloe Collender, Bethanne Gardener, Anna Hickey, Debra Jordan, Maeve McGrath, Yula Murphy, Heather O’Reilly and Aoife Walsh, who organised the daily quiz and helped raise awareness among the student population, of some key financial information. Congratulations to all the daily winners, hopefully you have been inspired to start or continue your savings habit!

Throughout Finance Week, the school bank, organised in collaboration with Bank of Ireland, was operated by five of our Transition Year students every day at break time and lunch time. The bank team made up of Sarah Nyhan, Abby Ryan, Kate Fleming, Chloe Lenihan and Roisín Duignan were appointed after an interview and were then trained in preparation for opening the bank. Opening the school bank every day that week gave Ard Scoil na nDéise students an opportunity to easily open a bank account with Bank of Ireland. Everyone who signed up received their own debit card in the post that they can use to withdraw cash and make payments. The school bank was very successful last year and we hope to build on that success this year.
