Ard Scoil na nDéise 5 - 0 St. Aloysius College
Well done to the Ard Scoil na nDéise hockey team on their comprehensive victory!

Congratulations to our Junior hockey team who played their very first match for Ard Scoil na nDéise recently in the Junior Munster South league.

We had a full panel of players and the team lined out as follows: In goal Emily F, Sweeping Anna F, in defence Rachel F, Aisling McK, and Ava M. In Midfield was Maddie B (Captain), Katie F, Catherine O’ D (Vice-Captain), and up front was Maeve B, Sarah B and Sarah P. On the bench to roll on and off throughout the matching was Terriann DP, Caitlin F, Eabha L, Ailbhe M, Gabby D, Olivia McG, Jessica F.

The game started with a steady pace with Ard Scoil having the better of exchanges and slowly applying pressure on the St. Al’s defence. Some good work from our midfield players Katie and Maddie as a lovely ball through put Catherine through on goal and she dispatched a lovely shot past the keeper. St. Al’s began to settle into the game and had a shot of their own which was saved beautifully by Emily who was equal to anything that came her way. Anna cleared her lines in defence ably supported by Ava and Rachel and on pushed Ard Scoil again with brilliant runs on each flank from Sarah P and Maeve. Maddie passed to Sarah B who found Catherine and she raced into the circle and unleashed another unstoppable shot, jubilant scenes as Ard Scoil closed out the first quarter 2-0.

Onto the second quarter with both teams rolling their benches in order to keep fresh legs in this face paced game. Ailbhe entered the fray as did Terriann in goal. Caitlin also came on in the forward line. Ard Scoil won a short corner, Aisling pushing out to Maddie at the top of the circle who sent in a great shot that just flew narrowly wide. The match ebbed and flowed at this point with St. Al’s gaining confidence, however they were met with a resilient performance from Ard Scoil. Rachel swapped into centre midfield and Maddie switched to centre back, St. Al’s couldn’t find a way through as some good defending from Ard Scoil kept Terriann with little to do in goal!

In the third quarter, Emily was re-introduced and on came Eabha in to right midfield, Gabby up front and Olivia into defence. The Ard Scoil girls were enjoying a good spell despite missing some good chances they weren't finished scoring just yet. A loose ball broke in the circle and on to it came the speedy Catherine who tucked away number three securing a hat trick of goals to see out the third quarter.

In the fourth and final quarter, Jessica came on to add fresh legs and Ard Scoil were defending well and keeping St. Al’s at bay with Emily once again pulling off several saves and clearances. Maeve came back in as did Sarah P and they making great runs up the wings, supported by Ailbhe who made several breakaway runs. Catherine was causing havoc leaving the opposition defence in her wake and she slotted in a lovely goal to make it 4-0. St. Al’s came back again and won a short corner, the resulting corner was intercepted by Rachel who passed to Maddie who cleared the lines. One last attack saw the ball worked up from midfield to the forward line and Catherine was in the right place at the right time as she slotted in both hers and Ard Scoil’s 5th goal of the game. A thrilling display of hockey from both sides and a great performance from everyone involved, it was great to get some lovely goals but equally important to keep a clean sheet.

A great start to our hockey campaign!
